for posterity

i watch/hear a lot of things all day every day.  some thinks i want to hold onto, so here's a video that i want to remember and be able to watch again in future.  i've attempted a translation below, since the one underneath the video did not do the poem justice.

(tranlater's note: i take MINOR liberties, for aesthetic purpose.)
here is my attempt to translate, though i know already i didn't come close.

good evening, my name is dania. i wrote a poem entitled "virginity check". i wrote it first in english, but i translated it into arabic, and want to present it to you today on the occasion of international women's day, and i hope that it will convey to you how i feel.

virginity check

you could not find fear in my eyes
so you opened my legs
to see if you could find it there?

what did you see, when you looked?
did you hear the pained cries of the oppressed?
did you see the corpses of our martyrs?

did you see - pardon me! - my cunt
looking at you with its baleful eye?
did you feel it spit on you?

what did you see, when you looked?
did you see, Freedom, my fetus
barely three months old today?

did you see - for Allah wills what he wills! -
how healthy she looked?
did you see that no power in the world
could abort her?

what did you see, when you looked?
did you see a light from a brighter future shine
and did it blind you?

what did you see, when you looked?
did you see how my uterus took the shape
of the scales of justice
carrying on one side freedom
and on the the other
justice?

what did you see, when you looked?
were you frightened, by what you saw?
if i were you, i would be.

do you really believe that you have demeaned me?
that you have turned my eyes to the floor?
the eye of truth cannot be shamed.

the eye of truth cannot be shamed.

poor fool!
there is nothing in the world that i want more
than for you to see the insistence and the anger inside me

and there is no place in the world where you can see it more clearly
than where you have looked
there
all the way inside

so look all you want
look, and fear me.
fear me.
